Twitch's new program gives Amazon Prime subscribers free games

Twitch is leveling up its increasingly popular Twitch Prime subscription service, announcing today the start of a new program. That's a small difference with Microsoft's Games with Gold program, as Xbox One Games with Gold titles can't be played without an active subscription.

There's no word on whether triple-A games will make their way into Free Games with Prime. In addition, all eight games from the Twitch Prime Indie Amplifier Program will become available over the next few months.

The Amazon-owned Twitch has been running a paid membership tier for a while now, but if you haven't been tempted to join before your head might be turned by the company's new initiative. Your kids will thank you later, even though the games offered won't necessarily be the blockbuster hits in the industry. The free games will be available until March 31 and members who download them will have access to games forever. If you're wondering what Twitch Prime is, it's basically just connecting your Amazon Prime account to your Twitch account. The first two include first-person shooter Superhot and supernatural mystery graphic adventure game Oxenfree.

Basically, each month there will be a selection of free PC games. Starting on April 1st, new titles will be released, such as Tales from the Borderlands and SteamWorld Dig 2. Users need to act within that timeframe or else the listing will get refreshed with other titles. So either you are subscribed to Twitch Prime, or Amazon Prime, you are entitled to this offer.

For a while now, Twitch has been giving away video games to Prime subscribers, but this is the first program that will regularly give out games.
