Vikings among teams to reach out to Drew Brees

What is interesting about this is that the Vikings have been rumored over the last few weeks as being possibly the top landing spot for Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins.

One of the most prized free agents in the National Football League this year is starting to see teams step up.

The road to the Super Bowl in the NFC is daunting, with a wide variety of teams expected to be legitimate contenders over the next 3-5 years. But Brees has yet to come to terms with the Saints, leaving the door open for the Vikings and other teams to reach out.'s Ian Rapoport reports the Vikings have "reached out" to free agent Drew Brees. And Brees will officially be free to sign with other teams on Wednesday.

Every team that needs a quarterback is surely reaching out to the best quarterback available in free agency, Drew Brees. A deal can not be official until Wednesday.

The Vikings, of course, are seeing all three of Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford hit the market.

But it's no secret that other teams would be willing to pay big money to secure a Hall of Fame quarterback of Brees' caliber.

Brees, 39, threw 23 touchdowns for the Saints last season and the expectation has been that he will return to New Orleans.

Much of this remains hypothetical, and the most likely result is still Brees signing with the Saints.

This could have a tremendous impact on how things play out for Cousins if the Vikings were to somehow able to pry Brees away from the Saints.

"Congratulations to Zach Strief on being arguably probably one of the best players I've had a chance to coach, one of the best teammates and someone our whole organization and fanbase can be proud of", Payton said in a statement, via the team's website.
