According to NBC, Luna's three daughters are staying with an aunt while their mother was in custody.

Morales-Luna denies being part of a smuggling organization and "has no idea what they're talking about", Moreno said.

THIS dramatic footage captured the moment a woman was torn from her heartbroken children by United States border control officers after she was accused of "smuggling".

The arrest by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, who claim the woman was part of a criminal smuggling ring, took place last Saturday, five days before the footage of the encounter began garnering widespread attention on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms. One of the officers hands her daughters the keys to their home before driving away with their mother.

Supporters of Luna said agents were aggressive as they arrested her, taking her to a Border Patrol vehicle as her three children watched and cried out for her.

Officials also said Luna is in the US illegally and is expected to be deported.

The arrest was described as "grotesque" by Benjamin Prado, coordinator for the American Friends Service Committee's San Diego US-Mexico Border Program. "If there weren't uniformed agents, it would resemble a kidnapping".

Perla Morales-Luna being detained by US Border Patrol agents in National City, California. She referred questions about alleged smuggling activities to the Border Patrol, which did not immediately respond to a request for more details. She was walking with her daughters to pay rent when agents stopped her in what the Border Patrol said was "the result of a targeted operation".

"They were looking for her", one source said.

Immigrants in the country illegally and their families have been on edge as deportation arrests have spiked more than 40 percent under Trump. "What was posted I think really showed the inhumane treatment of that woman being physically ripped from her children and then leaving the minor children here on the street not knowing what to do".

"You have to be living under a rock or not thought about it at all to be shocked that they separate families".

Her attorney says her "only" crime is being undocumented.
