Manchester United had Nemanja Matic to thank after the Serbian's injury-time victor against Crystal Palace on Monday night but the midfielder's last-gasp strike would have had a different look without David De Gea.

The Spain star is still said to near the top of Real president Florentino Perez's wishlist of summer signings, despite seemingly committing his future to United several times over.

De Gea and his representatives are now looking for the club to offer an improved deal due to his fine form for the club this season.

Real Madrid also made an early move by reaching out to super-agent Jorge Mendes and were told that it will cost them as much as €100million (£87m) to prise De Gea from Old Trafford.

Manchester United prepare bumper new deal for David De Gea

De Gea is already the highest-paid keeper in the world.

He has 16-months remaining on his current deal though United have an option to extend it by a further year till the summer of 2020.

And they doubled their lead three minutes into the second half after a quick free-kick from Jeffrey Schlupp to Patrick van Aanholt caught the United defence napping and the left back fired past David de Gea.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez are all understood to be on more money than De Gea at Old Trafford, despite the fact that he has clearly outshone all of the above this season.

For his part, United boss Jose Mourinho is eager to see De Gea tied down amid pressure from Real Madrid. I just say what is obvious.
