He reveals that it was a panic attack that led to his abrupt departure from the November 5th game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The 29-year-old self-described introvert says that he had a panic attack following halftime of a November 5 game against the Atlanta Hawks. Love revealed that he was inspired by Raptors' DeMar DeRozan's openness to talk about his mental health last week. So I did one seemingly little thing that turned out to be a big thing.

"I blurted something like, 'I'll be right back, ' and I ran back to the locker room", Love wrote. People don't talk about mental health enough and DeRozan and Love have recognized that needs to change.

The Cavaliers forward writes in an essay for the Players' Tribune that he had a panic attack during a game this season and he has spent most of his life afraid to accept there was something wrong with him.

You can not tell what someone else is going through just by looking at them; mental health is a concern for rich and poor, male and female, healthy and sickly.

There would have had to be a good meeting on Love's part because - although fans and a lot of media members would have you believe otherwise - walking out on your team and not showing up to practice the next day is a problem if nobody that actually plays for the team knows what's going on. I nodded, but I didn't hear much of what he said. I didn't even know if they were real.

Love, who is now seeing a therapist, had another panic attack in January, according to a report from Joe Vardon of

Kevin Love has a successful National Basketball Association career, a collaborative deal with Banana Republic and a swimsuit model girlfriend. And like many people who have had them, Love didn't know what was going on at first. And look, I'm probably not telling you anything new here. I was comfortable talking about basketball - but that came natural.

Love goes onto describe his first (and subsequent) meeting with a therapist, how they discussed the passing of his grandmother that happened a few years ago, and why he thinks it's important that people discuss these things. "I think by Kevin speaking it will hopefully inspire other players that are suffering the same kinds of issues", said Associate Professor and Center for Sport and Social Justice Director Matthew Atencio.

Kevin Love felt a pain in his stomach and shortness of breath before he realized he was having a panic attack. On the court, I think the expectations for the season, combined with our 4-5 start, were weighing on me. "So I'm not saying everyone should share all their deepest secrets - not everything should be public and it's every person's choice". But it was real - as real a broken hand or a sprained ankle.
