Cleveland Browns: Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen stands out at the NFL Combine

Allen, perhaps more so than the other three quarterbacks, vocalized the advantage to sitting back and learning for a year before taking the field as the No. 1 guy.

Southern Cal's Sam Darnold and UCLA's Josh Rosen are widely believed to be at the top of the quarterback pack and could go first and second to the Browns and Giants. If you're a 1-2 and run guy, and you, say, throw the ball 40 times a game - NFL, 30 times a game - you're giving yourself 70-80 opportunities to get the ball down the field.

The NFL Combine runs through Monday. They're close. They're very close. But they have an equal amount of downside.

Some have wondered about Rosen's leadership during this overly analytical part of the National Football League calendar.

For Josh Allen, Jordan Palmer was the right choice, in his mind, to fill this important role.

AS ADVERTISED: NFL Network reporter Kim Jones had this to say regarding Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield: "He told the media that he doesn't want to settle for being a backup, that he can turn around Cleveland".

History shows that teams in the quarterback market aren't shy about grabbing "their guy". "It takes time and you have to build relationships and you have to treat each individual, individually. I wonder in his heart of hearts if he missed competing today because the other guys went out and ripped it pretty good". "So you can ask anybody on that Oklahoma staff, that's what I bring to the table and it helps us out".

"Obviously, I'm still going to be working in California, trying to improve and so when we get to Pro Day, hopefully we'll have a better showing there". "Everything else he does is outstanding - decision-making, accuracy, accuracy under pressure, and he makes plays inside and outside".

Both quarterbacks heaped praise on the other when asked what it has been like to train together.

This year's quarterback class presents an interesting conundrum for teams that need one, because each of the top prospects has concerns that weren't alleviated during their senior seasons: Rosen's personality, Darnold's long delivery, Mayfield's antics, Allen's accuracy.

But the Jets - who hold the No. 6 overall selection - are in no position to dismiss a quarterback with a touchdown-interception ratio of 43-6 just because he thinks he's da bomb.

In fact, Newsome called the upcoming 2018 NFL season a make-or-break year for Perriman, a former first-round NFL Draft pick.

"I'm definitely OK with any scenario that's getting thrown my way", he said.

Two for Josh Allen. "He's a fantastic football player, fantastic quarterback and I take those highly that people put me in the same sentence as him, because he's a really good one". "His ability to anticipate passing windows, his ability to create outside of structure and that athleticism where he can evade the rush, keep his eyes downfield and still make plays".

Allen declines to read the links to articles his parents send him and has implored them to stay off Twitter and Instagram feeds.

"I mean, ball is ball", Rosen said.

"There is a possibility of some really good quarterbacks coming out of this draft", Elway said. "I think I'll continue to learn from the choices I make, whether it's in life or in football".

It's all part of the package that could have Allen tabbed as the quarterback to rescue a franchise. If it was easy, everyone would do it and Tom Brady wouldn't have been pick No. 199 back in 2000.
