Army camp attacked in J&K's Shopian; terrorist, 3 accomplices killed

A militant from Shopian was killed and his three "accomplices" were later "found to be dead", after a heavy exchange of gunfire took place at the Pahnoo army camp in Shopian, the PRO Defence Col Rajesh Kalia said on Sunday evening.

"Three Over Ground Workers (OGWs)/ accomplices in the auto who were accompanying the militant were found to be dead".

Later three more bodies were recovered from the auto.

The police have not filed an FIR in the Sunday's incident so far and said they are trying to confirm the identities of those killed.

Defence spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said, "A joint MVCP was sacked by the terrorists in Pahnoo village in Shopian district at 8 pm today (Sunday)".

He identified the slain militant as Shahid Ahmad Dar son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar resident of Jamnagri, Shopian.

In January this year, protests erupted in Kashmir when three people were killed in firing by the army which said it was retaliating to a violent demonstration by a stone-throwing mob.

Police is on the spot and have started legal formalities.

Indian army spokesperson said that the civilians were OGW workers of the rebels.

The locals alleged that the civilians were travelling in a vehicle through the area and were killed in reprisal by the Army following the militant attack.
