It looks like Blizzard is teasing Diablo 3 for the Nintendo Switch

That was the case for most consoles too, but Diablo III quickly signaled a return to home entertainment systems when it launched on Xbox and PlayStation back in 2013.

The Tweet simply contained the text "Sweet dreams".

Earlier this week, Blizzard tweeted out seemingly big news with a video that many people thought was meant to tease the release of its Diablo series on the Nintendo Switch. "[It was] meant to be a fun community engagement piece".

"We can assure you we're not that clever", a spokesperson for Blizzard Entertainment said via email. Blizzard is teasing something new for Diablo 3 over on the game's official Twitter account, sharing a GIF of someone switching a Diablo night light on and off. Blizzard reached out to Polygon via phone call denying the recent buzz, but leaving it suspiciously open ended with an "we have nothing to announce".

Diablo III is an incredible game.

Blizzard hasn't released a game on a Nintendo console since the year 2000, when StarCraft was ported to the N64. But in designing the Switch as a hybrid platform, Nintendo has made the decision to port games much easier.

I doubt we'll hear anymore about this project until Blizzard is ready to show the game running.

But this isn't the first time a cute Blizzard tweet has led to speculation that didn't pan out.

It's wonderful that Diablo 3, a game released six years ago, can still inspire this much excitement.

Payday 2 is now available for Nintendo Switch after it already released for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
