During the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, the United States men's curling team won its first-ever gold medal in curling with a stunning upset over top-ranked Sweden.

The team of "rejects" was led by John Shuster who had been cut by USA Curling after a disappointing performance in Sochi in 2014.

Sweden outshot the US 85 percent to 80 percent.

Men's Hockey Final: OAR vs. Germany, Saturday at 11:10 p.m. ET streaming online. He stopped being that guy a week ago, when his USA men's curling team fell to 2-4 in round-robin play, on the verge of elimination, and Shuster escorted his family to the far exit of the Gangneung Curling Center to put them on a bus, and his wife Sarah gave him the biggest pep talk he could, and he appreciated it but barely acknowledged it.

"It was pretty awesome, he didn't give us, a pity the fool, or anything like that, but you definitely can tell, if you didn't know who was giving the speech, you could tell it was T", he said. "And that's where the week changed for us and changed for me was to allow myself to go out there and enjoy it and let the work show through".

A big throw from Hamilton, who always has a lime green cap hanging out of his back pocket for luck, for a double takeout triggered cries of "U-S-A, U-S-A", but the Swedes nicked the seventh end to draw back level at 5-5. But five wins in a row, all of them must-win games, secured them glory.

Sweden struck first but Landsteiner and his team continued to bounce back.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders also tweeted congratulations to the men's curling team.

Shuster didn't miss again though. Hamilton shot 74 percent and Shuster was at 76 percent. They had just finished the third end and the bonspiel was tied at three each.

"I had a really nice passenger who traded me his first class seat for my coach seat, so I got a couple more hours of extra sleep than I probably would on the flight overseas, so that was nice", said Shuster. Whether you are a rising athlete, blue or white collar worker or a student like me, everyone can find a way to apply this lesson to their life.

Minnesota closed out the Olympics with style, added Shuster.

"During the entire end you could kind of feel it building, [Sweden's] margin for error got incredibly small", Shuster said of the decisive blow.

And again the USA responded with two. (Although Sweden had two stones in the house, the end does not count in the score).

Shuster rededicated himself to the sport and formed a team with other players rejected by USA Curling and beat their own replacements along the way.
