David Hasselhoff, who had a cameo in the Kung Fury short and performed its epic theme song, will appear in the upcoming film as well.

The original Kung Fury pays homage to 1980s martial arts and police action movies, and broke several Kickstarter records. It had earlier been announced that the film will star Oscar-nominated Michael Fassbender in a pivotal role.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is all set to star in David Sandberg's action-comedy Kung Fury, the feature-length follow-up to the cult 2015 short.

In addition to Fassbender, Schwarzenegger also joins fellow 80s mainstay David Hasselhoff in the Kung Fury cast. David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, Aaron Schmidt, Philip Westgren and Conor McCaughan will produce. After the death of one of the team, King Fury and the Thundercops disband, which allows a mysterious villain to wreak havoc in the city.

For the original Kung Fury, Sandberg, a commercial and music video director, used his production expertise to create a VFX-heavy, stunt-laden blast of nostalgia and satire; posted to YouTube after a 2015 Cannes Film Festival presentation, Kung Fury rocketed to double-digit views within the week. Arnold is set to portray the President of the United States in Kung Fury, a job he once publicly expressed interest in, but isn't eligible to hold in reality due to him not being born in the U.S. It remains to be seen how exactly Arnold's commander-in-chief will figure into Kung Fury's plot, or how featured his role will be in the film.

Schwarzenegger has been the face of the "Terminator" franchise playing the role of the titular robot assassin.

"I think [James] Cameron and Tim [Miller] came up with a concept where they can continue on with the T-800 but make a whole new movie", he explains to Business Insider. "Just move away from all these rules of the timeline and other characters".
