Israeli lightly injured in stabbing attack at settlement in central West Bank

European Union officials have urged Israeli authorities to rebuild recently demolished classrooms that served Palestinian children living in Abu Nuwar community in the central West Bank.

The Israeli army, for its part, said the Palestinian was killed after he stabbed and lightly wounded a security guard in the community of Karmei Tzur in Hebron.

In a statement issued yesterday, the European Union Representative and the EU Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah expressed "strong concern" over the demolition.

Israeli forces detained two Palestinians after storming their homes in Beit Furik town, east of Nablus.

The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday said that it was deploying additional battalions to the West Bank as reinforcements, following a recent uptick in terror attacks that have taken place over the Green Line, as well as a manhunt for a terror suspect.

Hamzah Zamara, 19, was killed after he was shot dead by Israeli soldiers near the southern West bank city of Hebron, the ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli settler was killed on Monday in a stabbing attack outside the illegal settlement of Ariel, in the northern West Bank.

On Tuesday, Israeli troops shot dead Ahmad Nassar Jarrar, the suspected ringleader of a terror cell responsible for the Israeli father of six's murder during a pre-dawn raid in the village of Yamoun, near Jenin.

A spokesperson for the Israeli army told Al Jazeera it was investigating and could not confirm the reports.

The Shin Bet Israeli military agency said that he was armed.

There was no indication of a direct link between Ben Gal's killing and the fatal January 9 shooting of rabbi Raziel Shevach.

Israel faced sharp criticism from the administration of former United States president Barack Obama over settlement construction, but that has not been the case with Trump's White House.

"We must say it in a clear way that there will be only one sovereign state between Jordan and the [Mediterranean] sea, that is the State of Israel with united Jerusalem as its capital", he said. Two Israelis have been killed in that timeframe.
