Casemiro: 'We can't make errors like this at the back against PSG'

Club captain Sergio Ramos has said the Champions League is "the only card" Madrid have left to play, and Zidane told a news conference: "It is not hard to motivate the players. Then there are two errors we make in the two goals".

They now sit precariously in fourth place, some 18 points behind bitter rivals Barcelona.

A humbling domestic campaign has seen the defending La Liga champions slip 19 points off the pace in the 2017-18 title race, while also exiting the Copa del Rey at the hands of giant-killing Leganes.

"We know the league is nearly impossible, but we need to finish well in the league because it builds our confidence", Madrid midfielder Casemiro said.

Zidane previously indicated he believes his job is on the line when Madrid host Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League on February 14, but the Frenchman appeared to row back on his comments after Madrid missed the chance to climb above Valencia into third.

Sergio Ramos gave the visitors an early lead with his 50th La Liga goal for Los Blancos, but Levante struck back just before half-time through Emmanuel Boateng. Alaves pulled five points clear of the bottom three as former Barcelona man Munir El Haddadi scored what proved to be the victor in a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo.

Against this backrop, Zidane places all his faith in his regulars, supplementing them with only Asensio, Lucas Asensio and Mateo Kovacic (and Isco, now that the return of the "bbC" has relegated him to the bench).

"Some of us were annoyed in the final stages as we did not know how to manage the result", Ramos said after the game - quoted by ESPN. "In general it annoys all of us, I do not want to say I am more annoyed than anyone else. He has scored goals in recent games and when he gets the ball special things can happen, because he has a lot of quality and it is vital for us".

"Yes, Real Madrid are favourites, but you have to always have respect for PSG and remember that in football, the favourites don't always win".

"We will continue fighting to stay as high as possible".

"We must be aware of what [Zinedine] Zidane does in the Champions League. We got to 2-1, but in the end, two mistakes cost us the two goals", he said.

"But when a machine works well, it goes to Mestalla and wins 4-1".
