A pilot for the show has been ordered by FX and will be "written by Clement and directed by Waititi" it was reported.

The 2014 movie explores the lives of four vampires named Deacon, Viago, Petyr, and Vladislav who all live in the same household in the city of Wellington.

Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Guillen have been cast.

The movie is both directed by and stars Taika Waititi (of Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople fame) and Jemaine Clement (of Flight of the Conchords fame).

Clement and Waititi will executive produce alongside franchise newcomers Scott Rudin (The Night Of, The Newsroom), Paul Simms (Flight of the Conchords, Atlanta) and Scott Rudin Productions' Garrett Basch and Eli Bush.

FX, home of American Horror Story and Legion, seems like a good fit for a bloodthirsty dark comedy about vampire roommates who don't always get along with the human world. or each other.

No concrete details are known about the show at this time, but Waititi confirmed to Fandango that the pilot will be set in America as opposed to the original film's New Zealand setting. The What We Do in the Shadows series will see Waititi as director and executive producer, and Clement as writer and executive producer.

It's the third reported What We Do In The Shadows spin-off project, following the upcoming TVNZ series Wellington Paranormal and feature-length follow-up, We're Wolves. Aside from vampires, the film also features werewolves.
