Whitman County Coroner Officially Rules On Death Of Tyler Hilinski

The police stated that 21-year-old was found dead in his apartment from an apparently inflicted gunshot wound and the suicide note found next to him.

Roy Manning, Former Washington State linebackers coach tweeted, "Words can't describe what I'm feeling right now".

"We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Tyler's passing", Washington State coach Mike Leach said in a statement Tuesday.

Police are interviewing Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski's friends and people who knew him to try to learn why he apparently took his life.

Hilinski was the presumptive starting quarterback going into next season.

The second string QB made his first start with the WSU Cougars in the Holiday Bowl against Michigan State in place of the injured starter Luke Falk.

Pullman police detectives and the Whitman County Coroner's Office are conducting a thorough investigation to confirm the suspected cause and manner of death, according to the police release.

He played in eight games in the 2017 season, highlighted by the September 9 game where he led the Cougars to a triple-overtime win against Boise State.

Tyler Hilinski's teammates also turned to social media to express their grief.

On the football field, WSU fans may best remember Hilinski leading the Cougars to a triple-overtime comeback win against Boise State.

"The tragic news today surrounding Tyler Hilinksi is devastating to all".

A community in Washington is stunned following the death of a college football player.

The interim Director of Athletics John Johnson released a statement as well stating that the team was brought together to inform them of the tragedy.

Hilinski is from Claremont, Calif, and went to high school at nearby Upland.
