The team's midfielders include two more Real Madrid players, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi (CF) also features alongside the Portuguese star in the team.

His former teammate Dani Alves is also selected, but Neymar - who left Barcelona for PSG in a world-record €222 million move in the summer - was not among the names to make the cut following nearly 8.8 million votes being cast.

UEFA.com shortlisted 50 players on the basis of their performances in the calendar year for the selections of the team of the year.
