4 powerlifters killed in vehicle accident in outer Delhi

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations to ascertain the actual reason behind the accident.

Four powerlifting players were killed and two others were injured in a tragic road accident.

Powerlifting gold medallist Saksham Yadav, 24, and four others died on Sunday after his sedan crashed into a divider and then an electric pole on a highway that leads to a popular breakfast destination after a night of partying in Delhi. A sixth weightlifter (19) was battling for life. "He has internal bleeding in the head", said a senior doctor at AIIMS. While Rohit, one of the victims who suffered grievous injuries was taken to LNJP Hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.

The impact of the accident was so high that the car's roof was completely blown off, police said.

"All the deceased and injured are from Haryana and stayed in different places in (north) Delhi's Timarpur area".

The cops rushed to the spot and found that one Maruti Swift met with an accident near a petrol pump while going towards Haryana's Karnal when they were celebrating Rohit's birthday. The victims were celebrating a birthday party and some alcohol bottles were found inside the auto, police said.

The mishap took place at around 4 am when the sportsmen were returning to Delhi in their Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire vehicle after attending an athletic meet in Panipat.

The force of the impact was so high that the vehicle rolled over several times and its roof got completely blown off, before the auto hit the pole, police said.
