Thomas was traded from the Celtics to the Cavs for Kyrie Irving in August after leading Boston to the Eastern Conference finals.

His status for Wednesday's game remains unclear at this time, but he hasn't been ruled out for the Cavaliers home game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the plan is to institute a "20-to-22 minute restriction" on Thomas in the early stages of his return from his hip injury, although the "flow of his comeback" will determine how much time he plays moving forward.

The Celtics said that they won't be showing an Isaiah Thomas tribute video during the game because the veteran guard has requested they not do so.

The Cavs and Celtics will meet in Boston again on February 11. This ain't no revenge game. "I just didn't want to rehash that moment, obviously". "I can wait until February". They know what they gave up. But they've got to be patient and stay the course.

Isaiah Thomas has been patiently waiting. He has been out since Game 3 of that series with a right hip injury. He tried to force the Cavs to play him last week in Sacramento and was denied. "And it might take some time but at the same time, the progress that I've made is all good and positive progress and I'm excited about the opportunity to be able to get out there and compete". "It's been a long process for me. Be you, be aggressive and look to score, ' so that always makes you feel comfortable that they want me to be who I am, and that's all I can be". Iman Shumpert, another player who was filling point guard minutes for Cleveland, has also been out. CJ McCollum scored 32 points as Portland halted its two-game slide. "A lot of guys stepped up tonight and were ready to play. The NBA didn't do us any favors".
