Mariah Carey Makes it Through Times Square set Cleanly, Phew!

I'm gonna be just like everybody else with no hot tea.

When Mariah Carey hit the stage at New Year's Rockin' Eve special, she had fans on pins and needles after she revealed that she didn't receive the hot tea she was promised.

"Happy New Year!" she said, addressing the crowd. Oh, it's a disaster! Okay, well, we'll just have to rough it. Before her second song - Hero, from 1993 - it seemed all was not well from her point of view.

For those that might not remember, Carey's singing career was the "final" victim of 2016. But the must-see footage also demonstrated the durability of Carey's uncommon charisma; even in a moment of crisis, she was throwing out loopy one-liners with her signature blend of queenliness and grit.

Just one year after the #Lambily leader took the famed Times Square stage to stand motionless as she played with her loose curls and told fans that "It just don't get any better" (it definitely does, btw), the diva returned for round two of the annual broadcast.

No such procedural issues affected Sunday's performance.

The temperature in New York City on Sunday night was only 11 degrees during Carey's performance, which served as a redemption of sorts after the singer's debacle a year ago on the same stage.

After her performance, she posted a picture of herself sipping tea on Twitter. "Much love and respect always!" She wanted her tea.

Should singers be able to sing?

One thing that wasn't missing: Carey's boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka.

This time, in contrast, she was offering technique alone, which left too little space for the freewheeling attitude that truly distinguishes her. The caption read: "That feeling when you steal Mariah Carey's hot tea".
