Congress MLA Asha Kumari slaps woman police constable, she slaps her back

The MLA later apologised, saying "the lady constable misbehaved, abused me and nearly beat me, but I should not have lost my calm". She, ANI reported, was trying to gain entry to a meeting being held by Congress president Rahul Gandhi to review the grand old party's recent Himachal Pradesh election loss.

At one moment, Kumari, who can be seen arguing, slaps a woman constable to her right, sparking off the series of slaps described above. Asha Kumari, the MLA, is a senior Congress leader.

Kumari blamed mismanagement for the incident and accused the constable of misbehaving with her.

Rahul will meet party legislators, defeated party candidates and district presidents, and discuss with them the reasons for the defeat.

During a day-long visit to Shimla, the Congress President will review the party's performance in the recently-held Himachal Pradesh assembly election. The party lost to the BJP after being reduced to just 21 seats in the 68-member Assembly.

The MLA from Dalhousie Asha Kumari was not available for comments.
