Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Dec 26 (ANI): An encounter is reportedly underway in Karnabal Samboora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district between the terrorists and the security forces on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

"Indian Army's 50 RR and police task force Awantipora laid a siege of Samboora village at 11pm on Monday which led to a gunfight with Jaish-e-Muhammad resulting in martyrdom of two mujahideen", the militant outfit said.

However, when the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists whose exact number was still not known, fired at the security forces triggering a fierce encounter, said the police chief.

The slain terrorist has been identified as Noor Mohammad Tantray aka Noora Trali, a resident Tral in Pulwama district. Tantray is said to be the chief architect of the attack on the Border Security Force (BSF) camp near Srinagar airport this October.

The deceased commander was called Chhota Noora, as he was just four feet two inches tall and was responsible for reviving the JeM in Kashmir.

He was also involved in the grenade attack carried on State PWD Minister Naeem Akhtar's cavalcade in Tralon 21 September.

"No one would suspect him to be a terrorist and that is why Jaish recruited him as an over-ground worker", a police officer told NDTV.

The police sources said Tantray masterminded several attacks, including suicide strikes.

Adding to the details, Shesh Paul Vaid, the Director General of Police, also hinted on an attack which was being planned by Tantray and his associates on a convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway. He was a convict in a case registered in 2003 in Delhi and was serving his sentence at Central Jail Srinagar until he was released on parole in 2015.

In the ensuing encounter, Tantray was killed whereas there was no information about the presence of the second militant, it said.

However, he jumped parole and joined the JeM.
