The account reappeared without loss in number of tweets posted but having lost a considerable number of followers.

It wasn't clear whether Twitter suspended Assange's account or whether the serial leaker deleted it himself.

The first post following the hiatus was an animated depiction of Santa Claus presumably writing down WikiLeaks under the "Good" section of his "naughty list".

Wikileaks reposted the Navy tweet, saying, "Despite some oddities from the US Navy and Twitter today and increased physical surveillance @JulianAssange's physical situation at the embassy remains unaltered - confined without charge in violation of two United Nations rulings requiring the UK to set him free". However, a source who works closely with WikiLeaks told the Gateway Pundit that they were not aware of any plans for Assange to deactivate his account. A similar incident happened last November when US President Donald Trump's Twitter account also momentarily vanished. Meanwhile, another account has come up claiming to be an alternative handle by Assange and started posting claims of censorship before it was suspended.

Those with secrets want him alive, if he dies the real dirt is released.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is seen on the balcony of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, Britain, May 19, 2017.

And while the internet was rife with conspiracy theories about Twitter disabling the account, it initially appeared that the account was disabled externally between midnight and 1 a.m. GMT, according to Gizmodo.
