Three escape Christmas Eve house fire in Northwest Knox

"We made a quick initial attack and had the fire contained to one room".

The fire started on the stove top where residents were cooking, he said.

An American bulldog died from smoke inhalation, Winistorfer said. He was alert and conscious as he was brought out, Winistorfer said. And he escaped serious injury because of a quick response.

Charlotte Fire Department crews responded to the fire about 2:18 a.m. on Bellhaven Boulevard.

The Fire department is asking the public for help. Each holiday season, the department promotes fire safety in Wood County through its "Keep The Wreath Green" campaign.

The source of the fire remains under investigation. Sunday's fire represents the first Marshfield fire since the campaign began.

Three fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze from Chester, Ellesmere Port and Powey Lane stations.

He said the fire spread from to a second vehicle, then into the house. "We've had people bringing in towels and shoes and coats and they're wrapping children's Christmas gifts and whatever they need they come through with", said Jeanna Knoll with the Red Cross.
