The trailer features combat with two of the game's mainstays: the Samurai Mitsurugi and the Athenian warrior Sophitia. So, it came as a bit of surprise tonight when Bandai Namco announced the release of a sequel at The Game Awards. The reveal trailer shows a glimpse of the 3D action fighting that you can expect to experience in 2018.

"Soulcalibur VI represents the latest entry in the premier weapons-based, head-to-head fighting series and continues the epic struggle of warriors searching for the legendary Soul Swords".

As far as the story goes, SoulCalibur VI takes place in the 16th century and revisits the events of the original game.

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. returns to the stage of history with SOULCALIBUR VI for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, and STEAM for PC.

Soul Calibur 6 is being developed on Unreal Engine, like Tekken 7 was. There's little information beyond a single teaser trailer, although we do know that the game will at least be headed to PC for the first time. "Reversal Edge enables characters to clash against each other and follow-up with powerful counterattacks based on their opponent's actions", says the press release. Bandai Namco has said SoulCalibur VI will have a roster of "returning characters and newcomers", so that mysterious figure may be someone entirely new to the series.
