Google pulls YouTube app from Amazon Fire TV devices

Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, does not stock Google products including Google Chromecast, which competes with the Amazon Fire TV line, and Google Home, which competes with Amazon Echo.

With Amazon finally relenting on its years-long holdout, it seems the company may be finally realising it needs support from partners such as Apple if its streaming video service is going to thrive. Sadly if they do not reach an agreement you will have to mirror your smartphone on to the Amazon streaming device to watch YouTube on the big screen.

"Amazon Prime Video is one of the most eagerly anticipated apps to come to Apple TV, so we're excited to bring all of that great content to customers", added Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services.

Plenty of video services work with Chromecast - but Amazon doesn't let its video service work on the Google device.

Why such good news for Apple TV owners, and such bad news for Fire TV and Chromecast owners?

The exact cause of the bad blood between the two companies has never been confirmed but many speculate the similarity between the Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV devices is the main reason. The controller gives you a headphone jack for private listening and hands-free queries with Google Assistant.

As much previously reported, Apple insists on taking 30% of sales made through its app store, both on apps that you pay to download, and also those where a subscription is charged within the app itself.

It is now unclear why Amazon chose to reduce its audio quality in its Apple TV app to PCM stereo.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said at the company's developer conference in June that Apple's streaming media player would support Amazon's video app by the end of this year.

Amazon Prime Video App can be used on Apple TV's third, fourth, and fifth generations.

The Siri remote is also barely different from the two-year-old HD-only Apple TV. And, trust me, if you don't have multiple 4K sources already, you will do soon.

The key upgrades for the Apple 4K TV are all on the inside. It's also possible, with a few extra clicks for confirmation, to display your iCloud photos onscreen. For cheaper models, you can get that through Roku's smartphone app. Though an iPhone isn't required, Apple TV will be most useful with one. There's room for both Amazon and Apple to thrive, especially since video is just one facet of Amazon Prime.
