Supporters rally, demand due-process for US Rep. Conyers

Grubbs came forward as Conyers is expected to speak on a Detroit radio show Tuesday about his future.

A cousin of a staffer who accused Rep. John Conyers of sexual harassment says the woman's claims are true - and the pol harassed her, too, an affidavit released Monday says.

He is endorsing his son, John Conyers III, to replace him in Congress.

"My legacy can't be compromised, or diminished in any way by what we are going through now", Conyers said.

Conyers has continued to deny the women's accounts, and his lawyer said Conyers would not pay back the settlement money that was paid to Brown at taxpayer expense.

"I was startled and sprang to my feet and exclaimed, 'He just ran his hand up my thigh!' Other staffers witnessed the event", Elisa Grubbs said in an affidavit.

Conyers was facing investigation by the House Ethics Committee into multiple allegations that he had sexually harassed women who worked with him.

'The allegations against congressman Conyers as we have learned more since Sunday are serious, disappointing and very credible, ' said Pelosi, a California representative who notably did not call for Conyers to go during a Sunday appearance on NBC's 'Meet the Press'.

Conyers flew home to his district last week and checked into the hospital for what a family consultant said was stress.

As allegations of sexual misconduct continue to swirl around him, several of Conyers' congressional colleagues encouraged him to resign.

"I'm now in Israel on a fact finding mission with African American leaders from the Midwest", Ian Conyers tweeted just minutes after his grand-uncle's radio interview ended.

His lawyer earlier said on Twitter that Conyers would make an announcement at 10:15 a.m.

According to a phone interview with The New York Times, the state senator was adamant that the elder Conyers was not resigning, but retiring instead.

"Whatever (the allegations) are, they are not accurate", he said. Last week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders called for his resignation. The New York Timesis reporting Rep. Conyers will also announce his great-nephew and current MI senator Ian Conyers will run for his seat at the end of his term. Conyers has denied all the allegations, and on Tuesday, wrote the accusations off as "politics".

Conyers has already stepped down from his leadership position as ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee late last month.
