If you weren't following along on social media, here are some of Tiger's shots from the first round. This time it was Donovan Bailey, the former 100m world champion, and Niall Horan, the One Direction crooner, expressing their feverish enthusiasm.

Englishman Justin Rose is alone in fourth at 8 under after a second consecutive 4-under 68, one shot ahead of a group that includes Woods, Matsuyama, Francesco Molinari, Matt Kuchar and Rickie Fowler.

The world's top three players Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are among an elite field at the Bahamas tournament, which is organised by Woods' foundation and is an unofficial money event on the PGA Tour. But it boasts the best and the best do not appreciate losing.

Woods holed from five feet on the first, two-putted the par-five third and converted from four feet on the fourth, but saved the best till last on the front nine on the par-five ninth. And all the while, he was driving it in the style one of the celebrated young generation - long, straight.

"I had a hard time all day with my speed on the greens - they seemed to be about a foot faster". Prior to the start of this tournament on Thursday, his last event was on February 3 in Dubai. Woods answered them beautifully today and it all started off the tee.

From there, he pitched to approximately 15 feet and burned the left edge with his birdie putt.

Well, he is Tiger Woods.

"I proved that the surgery was successful", he said, referring to the spinal fusion that he had in April, which knocked him out of commission for the rest of the season.

"It was fun to get out there and actually be part of a scorecard again".

Woods played near-flawless golf on the front-nine at Albany Golf Club. I really did struggle with my speed.

"I didn't know what to expect, because I hadn't played".

Spieth had seven birdies and two bogeys during Friday's round.
