The Ole Miss NCAA ruling: What you need to know

The crux of the amended notice of allegations, which came after former offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil's draft night to forget that included an admission that he took money from Ole Miss officials and a video posted on his own social media accounts of him smoking a substance through a gas mask.

In addition to the postseason ban and loss of scholarships, the NCAA will vacate wins where ineligible players were active, but the exact wins are not known at the time and are being assessed by the university.

NCAA spokeswoman Stacy Osborne told ESPN that Ole Miss seniors will be permitted to transfer to another school without penalty, due to the postseason ban.

The NCAA finally wrapped up its investigation into the Ole Miss recruiting scandal, and the resulting punishment is pretty harsh: a two-year postseason ban, scholarship reductions, and a handful of show-causes for various assistants and administrators.

The Committee on Infractions said the case was similar to other Ole Miss rules violations cases in 1986 and 1994 and that the school had an "unconstrained booster culture". While my hope is to be a head coach again as soon as possible, this restriction does not limit, in any way, my ability to serve as an assistant coach.

The stiffest penalty was for former staff member David Saunders, who received an eight-year show cause for helping arrange fraudulent ACT scores.

"It is not necessary for an institution to obtain permission in writing to recruit a student-athlete at an institution that has been placed on probation with sanctions that preclude it from competing in postseason competition during the remaining seasons of the student-athlete's eligibility". Yet, I am encouraged that the CIO found the failure to monitor was a mitigated violation based on, among other things, my personal record of compliance with NCAA rules.

Now that Ole Miss has a better idea of its punishment, it can begin the process of rebuilding the program.

Ole Miss reached the.500 mark after beating Mississippi State 31-28 on Thanksgiving. Freeze also resigned from the school when it was discovered he made several phone calls to an escort service on his university-issued cell phone.

Needless to say, the school plans to appeal by next week, Bjork said.
