Tennessee Volunteers To Hire Mike Leach As Head Coach

Jimbo Fisher is leaving Florida State University to take over as the head football coach at Texas A&M, according to multiple reports. Former Penn State staffer Mike McQueary, from his 2015 deposition, said fellow assistant coach Tom Bradley told McQueary that Schiano was aware of a child sexual abuse incident by Sandusky.

On Sunday, a deal to make Greg Schiano the next coach was rescinded amid fan backlash. Before Leach took over as head coach in 2012, the Cougars hadn't had a winning season since 2003 when they went 10-3.

Since the Schiano mess, Currie has reportedly pursued, and been rejected by, Mike Gundy, Jeff Brohm, David Cutliffe, Dave Doeren, Jim Bob Cooter and others. Jones had a 34-27 record in five seasons at Tennessee. This news will disappoint the people in Fulmer's corner, though Currie's got his own Tennessee history.

"I am confident that Phillip understands our commitment to excellence in all of our athletic programs and I appreciate his willingness to serve during this critical time".

Currie's familiarity with Tennessee was seen as a selling point when he got hired.

At Kansas State, Currie benefited from the stability of having longtime football coach Bill Snyder around since his first year on the job.

Fulmer said he had no timetable for the school's hiring of its next coach, nor does he have a list of candidates "because all of this has happened so fast".

Hours after seemingly approaching the end of a long, winding and controversial coaching search, the University of Tennessee Athletic Department was upended again Friday morning.

Fulmer had publicly expressed his interest in the athletic director position, but Currie was chosen as Hart's replacement instead. The former Tennessee AD was prepared to hire Leach to become the Volunteers' coach, according to Brett McMurphy, but "university officials wouldn't allow him to do do".
