"OK Waze" Voice Control, HOV Lane Support in Canada and More

The navigation app has added voice control so you can ask questions or change your destination as you drive without taking your hands off the wheel.

First up is motorcycle mode, a feature that has been frequently requested by users in the past and which will give riders tailored routes and arrival times based on their chosen mode of transport.

The new motorbike option will make Waze more useful and enjoyable for those who enjoy riding on two wheels, and the Talk to Waze feature allows complete handsfree interaction with a new hotword "Ok Waze".

"Whether you're riding with one passenger or more; in a hybrid, electric, or clean-fuel auto; with a special pass; or a combination of all of the above, Waze will determine your optimal route", the company wrote. If you live in an area that has such lanes (sometimes called diamond lanes or carpool lanes), these lanes will be now be used to designate the most optimal route. Simply turn on Talk to Waze in the Sound and Voice settings menu and then say "OK Waze" to begin talking. Still, the Waze voice commands are in line with Google's own command, which is saying, "OK Google", for hands-free access to Google Assistant.

Finlay Clark, head of Waze UK said: "Drive times, routes and roads vary between automobiles and motorcycles, so by including this new vehicle type, Waze is proud to be supporting a driving experience unique to motorcycle navigation".

Waze also introduced a carpool mode, available only in the US and Canada, which suggests additional navigation options for high-occupancy-vehicle lanes (carpool lanes).

This feature is now available for English speakers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, and New Zealand.

HOV route support is now open to Wazers in 22 markets across the U.S. (full list below), and in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. The data is collected from other motorcyclists, so the more you use it, the smarter the routing will become. To enable this, just go to Settings Vehicle Type Motorcycles in the app.
