The Patna-bound Vasco Da Gama Express (12741) derailed at 4:18 am, soon after leaving platform number 2 of the Manikpur railway station in Chitrakoot district, about 250 km from Lucknow, he said.

Following the incident, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to family members of passengers who reportedly died in the train derailment, whereas, Rs 1 lakh will be given who suffered grievous injuries.

He added that a medical train had reached the location of the derailment and by 5:20 AM an accident relief train had also been dispatched.

However, the video does talk about launching a weekly train from Ghazipur station in Uttar Pradesh to Mata Vaishno Devi, Katra Station - despite India's tracks being overburdened. The improper welding of track's joint and oxidised track was said to be reasons behind the derailment.

The Commissioner Railway Safety (North East Circle), Satish Pandey, is probing the accident, said the public relation officer of North Central Railway, Gaurav Bansal. The Train was travelling from Goa to Patna.

The Railway officials and the rescue team have rushed to the spot after the train derailment took place. Three people died and more than nine got injured in the accident. "My honest condolences to the families of the deceased", reads the quote from a tweet of Railway minister Piyush Goyal.
