Robinho speaks out after ex-Man City star 'jailed for sexual assault'

With AP Photos.Former AC Milan and Real Madrid striker Robinho was sentenced to nine years in jail by a court in Milan on charges of sexual assault following an incident in 2013, Italian news agency ANSA reported Thursday.

As media reports suggest, the former Manchester City player who along with a group of five other men have been found guilty of sexually assaulting an Albanian girl in a Milan club in January, 2013.

The 33-year-old, who is now back playing football in Brazil, denied assaulting a 22-year-old woman at a Milan disco.

According to local legislation no Brazilian citizen can be extradited to another country under request to face criminal charges, although that will not apply should he leave his home nation and is detained elsewhere.

A statement has been issued on his Instagram profile, from his lawyers, denying he was involved.

A lack of discipline, however, began to dog Robinho, and he was soon returning to Santos before a spell in Italy where the assault took place.

The forward sent shockwaves through the world of football when he made a sensational £32.5million deadline day move to Manchester City in September 2008.

He then went on loan to Brazilian side Santos, before joining Milan.

Robino played at AC Milan later after 16 months where he won the Serie A title with players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio Cassano.

He is now back in Brazil with Atletico Mineiro.
