On Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told American Jewish leaders gathered in Los Angeles that he was motivated to direct the aid by photographs of the devastation caused by Sunday's magnitude 7.3 natural disaster, which has killed at least 530 people in Iran and several in Iraq.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has made it clear to the US and Russian Federation that Israel will continue with its operations in Syria.

"I just saw the pictures of destruction in Iran and Iraq following this week's natural disaster. We recently returned from the region, where we heard concerns from our close ally, Israel, about Iranian operations in Syria", some 43 congressmen said in the letter.

He added: "I've said many times that we have no quarrel with the people of Iran". Our quarrel is only with the tyrannical regime that holds them hostage and threatens our destruction.

"I have made it clear to our friends, firstly in Washington and then also in Moscow, that Israel will take actions in Syria, including in southern Syria, according to our understanding and our security needs", he said.

"While the United States [with Russia] has made the south-west de-escalation zone a priority in its Syria policy, it has no realistic means of actually rolling back Iranian influence across the border", said Mr Schneider. More than 500 people were killed and more than 7,500 were injured in the quake.

A spokesman said: "We have an important, strategic, strong, collaborative relationship with Israel, and U.S. government delegations routinely visit Israel to coordinate on a wide range of issues".

These statements came after the US, Russia and Jordan negotiated the deal designed to reach a new cease-fire agreement in southern Syria that will create a "de-escalation zone" adjacent to Israel's border, where Iran and Hezbollah, its terror proxy, will not be allowed to establish themselves. "The Jewish people are among the leaders in human morality and compassion", he tweeted in Hebrew.
