Exits game with rib injury

The Browns were coming out of a timeout - their last of the half - and it is incumbent upon Jackson to stress game situation to his rookie quarterback.

Stafford completed 17 of 26 passes for 249 yards.

"We're just trying to get in his face and make sure he couldn't do something like that but he was able to capitalize on our mistakes and he came through with the win".

The tide turned with a rib injury suffered by Browns starting quarterback DeShone Kizer in the third quarter.

Kizer, though, made what appeared to be a major mistake at the end of the first half.

Facing a second-and-three from Detroit's 46-yard line, Stafford dropped back after taking the snap from center and rifled a 35-yard pass over the middle of the field to Tate, which moved the ball down to Cleveland's 19-yard line. Linebacker Jamie Collins' interception of a Stafford pass set up Cleveland's first-quarter touchdown.

The Browns, of course, have no hopes of a second-half turnaround that would suddenly vault them to playoff contention.

The Lions finally put the game away at that point, as wide receiver Golden Tate took a short pass 40 yards for a touchdown that put the Lions up 38-24.

Kizer was tackled by cornerback Quandre Diggs on a blitz while throwing an incompletion. It went nowhere, and the Lions wisely made sure the Browns could not get up to spike the ball for a field goal try.

The Lions woke up in the second quarter, with a balanced attack setting up a field goal and a touchdown run.

Detroit leads Cleveland 31-24 in the fourth quarter.

NOTES: Lions DE Ziggy Ansah missed the game with a back injury.

The 5-4 Detroit Lions will travel to the Windy City in Week 11 to face a divisional rival, the Chicago Bears. QB DeShone Kizer has four rushing touchdowns, the most by a Cleveland quarterback since Brian Sipe had four in 1974.
