After Corfman's allegations, three other women also accused Moore of dating them when they were underage.

The story also quoted three other women who said Moore dated them when they were between 16 and 18 years old and he was in his early 30s, though none said they had sexual contact with Moore.

Moore could conceivably step down if is he personally resigns, but that decision would have to go through the Alabama secretary of state-the state's chief elections official-who would then have to make a ruling as to whether or not Moore could withdraw from the race.

"These allegations are completely false and are a desperate political attack by the National Democrat Party and the Washington Post on this campaign", he said.

Moore, now 70, denied the allegations in a statement to the Post.

Moore's opponent, Strange, was backed by McConnell and the Republican establishment during the campaign.

A growing chorus of Senate Republicans including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., have called on Senate candidate Roy Moore to withdraw from a special election in Alabama if allegations prove true that the former judge initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl almost four decades ago. "It's a he-said, she [said]", Hannity said.

Moore asked for Corfman's number and days later took her to his house, where they engaged in sexual activity before she asked to be taken home, Corfman said. Corfman claims that this happened twice.

"I wanted it over with - I wanted out", Corfman told the Post. At his own place, he kissed the teenager before telling her how pretty she was.

The Post reported that Moore took Leigh Corfman to his house in 1979, stripped down to his underwear and made her touch his genitals.

Sorry to politicize a truly disgusting action, but hey, if it gets Roy Moore-who, according to The Root's politics editor, Jason Johnson, is a Breitbart-approved, "virulently bigoted, white-supremacist-sympathizing, Jeff Sessions-patterned candidate"-so the better. Whatever this is, just get it over". Considered an anti-establishment conservative, Moore will face Democrat Doug Jones in a special Senate election December 12 to replace Jeff Sessions, who is now United States attorney general.

The Huffington Post reports that even if Moore withdraws, he can not be easily replaced on the ballot, perhaps ensuring that the seat will fall to the Democratic challenger Doug Jones in the December 12 election.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was one of the first GOPers to speak out following the accusations, saying: "If these allegations are true, he must step aside". John McCain, however, did not equivocate.

Moore, a former judge who is the Republican candidate for Senate in Alabama, has denied the allegations. "He should immediately step aside and allow the people of Alabama to elect a candidate they can be proud of".

Some local Alabama politicians, however, were not as quick to suggest the allegations could be credible.
