Donna Brazile: Clinton Took Over the DNC, Robbed Sanders of the Nomination

In an excerpt from her new book, "Hacks", former interim DNC head Donna Brazile revealed that the Democratic National Committee was under the full control of Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primary, with the Clinton campaign controlling all finances, communication and staff.

The ousted CNN contributor makes the surprising revelation in her book, titled "Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-Ins and Breakdowns that Put Donald Trump in the White House", which is set to hit shelves November 7.

Leaked emails from a Russian hack of a DNC server, made public by WikiLeaks in July 2016, suggested top Democratic officials, including ousted DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, favored Hillary Clinton over Sanders.

Brazile writes that shortly after becoming chair, she called Sanders to explain how Clinton had exerted a "control of the party long before she became its nominee".

The proof, according to Ms Brazile, was a joint fundraising agreement between the DNC, the Hillary Victory Fund and Hillary for America. "In exchange for raising money and investing in the DNC, Hillary would control the party's finances, strategy, and all the money raised", Brazile writes.

With the D.N.C. millions of dollars in debt after Barack Obama's 2012 re-election bid, the organization was in desperate need of cash, leaving the party with little choice but to rely on Clinton's donors to recapitalize.

"If the fight had been fair, one campaign would not have control of the party before the voters had decided which one they wanted to lead", she wrote.

She said that when Perez won the party post early this year, "the very first conversation I had with him [was] to say, you have got to put together a Democratic Party in which everybody can have confidence that the party is working for Democrats, rather than Democrats are working for the party".

I think what Donna Brazile just did not only took so much courage, it was a HUGE step toward healing a deep rift/wound from 2016. "But what we've got to do as Democrats now, we've got to hold this party accountable". The agreement, which was signed in August 2015, appeared to be win-win: Clinton's campaign effectively gained complete control of the DNC, while the DNC gained financial assistance. Brazile throws her under an entire fleet of buses, a couple of Mack trucks, and a steamroller to boot.

Mrs. McDaniel was referring to Ms. Brazile's piece in Thursday's Politico, in which she described the state the party was in when she took over. The joint fundraising agreement between the Clinton campaign and the DNC was already known about and the subject of derision among Sanders's supporters. He didn't yell or protest, she said.

In an interview with CNBC, Mr Perez said, "We're moving forward", when asked about the Ms Brazile's allegations. Brazile, who would really like to retain her standing in the party, has knifed Team Hillary, and has demonstrated that she can be useful to the new leaders of the Democrats.
