Ashwin & Jadeja not picked again

India on Saturday recalled wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik to the one-day global squad for three upcoming matches against New Zealand. The decision comes as a surprise as Jadeja hammered a classy 150 against Jammu and Kashmir in a Ranji Trophy match prior to the decision. What's the point in him just being in the squad and not playing? "Because, as of now, this is the best combination", the official told ESPNCricinfo. While Umesh picked four wickets for 71, Shami went wicketless and conceded at more than six runs per over as Australia amassed 334 runs. The New Zealand series might just have been the ideal platform to launch the carom-ball expert back into attack again. "Ross Taylor and Worker will return to New Zealand following the conclusion of the ODIs", the statement added.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik, who was in the squad for the three-match Twenty20 series against Australia, and Mumbai speedster Shardul Thakur have made a comeback to the Indian squad. Rahul was in the 15-member-squad against Australia, but did not play even a single match. If India has to keep a regular wicket-taking bowler in the 2019 World Cup squad, Jadeja should be playing a lot more cricket than he is now.

"Certainly in the a year ago or two, he's been playing outstandingly well". But with Dhawan back into the side, only one between Rahane and Rahul could have got a place in the squad. Umesh Yadav should have been the preferred choice as he has led the attack for a while now and he can be that x-factor in the World Cup campaign who makes it easy for the other bowlers to gel through.

"Todd Astle, Matt Henry, Henry Nicholls, Colin Munro, Glenn Phillips and George Worker will join the squad following the conclusion of the NZ A tour against India A", New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said in a statement.
