Xiaomi didn't see much success with Xiaomi Mi 5 in India, like it did with it's other quality budget phones. Here is our first look at their bezel-less flagship.

Talking about the design, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a gorgeous looking handset that also addresses some important usability issues witnessed with the original Mi Mix. This latter model is unlikely to launch in India any time soon, if at all, since it hasn't even been launched in China yet. The Mi Mix 2 also features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric security. The front is almost bezel-less at the top and sides. Apart from the camera, the major highlight is its hidden sound-guided speaker that resonates sound through the display and frame with completely hiding the speaker itself. You will find the SIM card tray at the left side.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is a mid-range phone, it sports a metal body, and a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display.

It will come in an 18.9 aspect ratio. This display has good specifications on paper and is equally good in real usage. While the Mi Mix felt like a prototype, the Mi Mix 2 feels more like a finished product, thanks to curvier edges. To achieve the effect, Xiaomi had to move the front camera to the bottom bezel. You'll need to hold the phone upside-down to comfortably take a selfie.

There's no gimmick of dual cameras in the Mi MiX 2. There is no shutter lag, no grains and the color reproduction and detail are also good.

With flagship-level build, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is packing flagship specifications as well. For storage you get 128GB of internal memory which should be enough to carry your song libraries and saving tons of photos. With such pricing, it competes with the OnePlus 5 and Nokia 8. The device will run Android Nougat 7.1.1-based MIUI 8 out of the box.

The Mi Mix 2 is lighter, smaller and thinner than the previous version. The smartphone supports the largest number of 4G LTE bands with VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11c (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth v5.0 and Global Positioning System.

On the audio front, Xiaomi has improved the cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology and has also included a 50mW power speaker along with a guiding tube.

By bringing the Mi Mix 2 to India, Xiaomi is signaling its intent to expand into the mid-range segment.

The Xiaomi device will be sold on Flipkart and Mi.com in a preview sale on October 17.
