Sabathia's final stat line: 5.1 innings, three hits, four runs, two earned, three walks, five strikeouts.

In two starts against the Yankees this year, Kluber was 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA. Yet in this freakish, binary season of the strikeout/home run, the Yankees turned Kluber into a game of pepper, pounding the ball off and over walls, with the carousel of runners stomping on home plate six times after three innings.

Two days ago I lauded Yankees manager Joe Girardi for making all the right moves in a A.L. Wild Card win over Minnesota.

The Indians won the opener 4-0 over the Yankees, who were held to three hits and got nothing from rookie slugger Aaron Judge.

"I screwed up", Girardi said in a news conference Saturday. Girardi often utilizes his challenges during the regular season (and well; this season, the Yankees were successful on 29 of their 41 challenges, the best percentage in baseball), and in a game like this, when your team's back is to the wall, he chose not to. That's just who I am. "So I'm not really too concerned about it". It's always a good reminder that for all of the information we have as fans, there is more behind the scenes and a human element that we can't quantify.

When Terry Francona kept his ace on the bench for Game 1, we wondered what he was thinking. And perhaps they win this game, and this series, next year. He struck out Michael Brantley swinging in the second inning with the bases loaded, holding the Indians to one run.

With that said, how do the Yankees prepare to pitch against a hitter like Ramirez?

With the Yankees playing only one postseason game over the past five seasons prior to Tuesday night, a narrative had been published that Yankee Stadium is boring and lacks the atmosphere of the old stadium.

However, Sanchez was calling out to have the call replayed from the moment it happened, so that in and of itself, should have told the Yankees skipper something was wrong.
