Follow footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi, says Vice-chancellor of Kakatiya University

The team, led by their Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya, gathered at Mumbai's Marine Drive beach to clean the area and get rid of all the plastic and other forms of waste in and around this.

Principal Dipti Ingley and the staff of KLES' International School, on this auspicious day, contributed in a cleanliness drive around the school premises.

"Gandhijis dream of a clean India is yet to be fulfilled", he said.

Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh today paid their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 148th birth anniversary.

This is the place where Mahatma Gandhi spent his last days of his life and was assassinated on January 30, 1948.

Rao said parents and teachers should play a pivotal role in creating awareness on cleanliness among children.

An annual event to celebrate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of India's independence movement, was held at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo on Monday.

Referring to the Swachhata Hi Seva programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rao said, "it is high time the practice of cleanliness is cultivated as a routine habit".

"We can not achieve the target (of a Clean India) even if 1,000 Mahatma Gandhis, one lakh Narendra Modis, chief ministers and all governments come together".

Rupani will also lay the foundation stone or inaugurate various capital works for Porbandar totalling Rs. 46.78 crore.

India's Father of the Nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti in India on October 2.
