Los Angeles Chargers looking to avoid 0-4 start against Philadelphia Eagles

Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon (knee) will be a full participant at Thursday's practice, according to head coach Anthony Lynn. The Chargers can't seem to make a field goal with the game hanging in the balance. With the favorite on an 8-1 ATS run in the series and the Broncos able to go all out with a bye on deck, we'll go ahead and back the home squad in this one.

"Their two edge pass rushers as a duo may be as good as we face all year", offensive coordinator Frank Reich said. The Giants ran an up-tempo, fast paced offense though which prevented the Eagles from subbing out defensive players as much and prevented them from even recording one sack.

Eagles running backs: They came into the season with a strong three-man running back rotation with Darren Sproles, LeGarrette Blount and Wendell Smallwood. The Eagles should win this one handily but do not be surprised if it is one of those unusual afternoons where the Eagles just never get going.

The Chargers are tied for 26th in the 32-team league in scoring, averaging 16 points per game, 28th in rushing, averaging 70.7 yards per game, and 11th in passing, averaging 244.7 yards per game.

The Chargers is one in five teams that has yet to get a win in the NFL. "His missed a potential game-winning attempt from 44 yards in a 19-17 loss to Miami in the Chargers" home opener two weeks ago.

It appeared a damning indictment of the Chargers' attendance woes; teams with attendance problems will often tarp off sections of the stadium to consolidate fans. Philip Rivers has been unlucky so far this year when it comes to facing top defenses, but this week against the Eagles secondary should allow him to finally play at the level his peers know he can play at. The Chargers will need a big outing from Melvin Gordon in order to protect the football and keep the Eagles offense off the field and while his career sample size isn't huge I think he has proven he is more than capable of being an every down feature back as last season proved he is a franchise cornerstone.

The Chargers will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month during the game.

Chargers tight end Antonio Gates (85) is unable to catch the ball. Good hire, there, Chargers.

"Let's just win a game", Rivers said.

Like a lot of the games this week, there's not a long history of contests between the Eagles and the Chargers.

The Chargers, meanwhile, have scored more than 40 points just once all season.

The Eagles showed great resiliency in their win against the Giants last week, but they were not without their struggles due to those injuries. Blount had 67 yards against NY while Smallwood stunningly racked up 71 on 12 carries after entering the contest with eight yards on seven carries.
