Ted Cruz says favorited porn tweet was 'inadvertent' and a 'mistake'

US Republican Senator Ted Cruz's official Twitter account "liked" a two-minute long, explicit porn video on the social media platform and the Internet is going bonkers.

But the key question is: Who dunnit? He's also a very busy man, likely starved of opportunities to jerk it quietly, and he may have happened upon the dirty tweet while doing his real job of reading the people's tweets.

"This was not how I envisioned waking up this morning", he said. Some users joked that they were "taken aback", Cruz's way of remembering the anniversary of the September 11. attacks.

And most urgently, as Cruz's name trended to the top of Twitter on Monday morning: Who clicked the heart?

Others mocked Cruz over the timing of the alleged "like".

Ironically, Cruz has been a leading crusader against pornography.

Earlier in 2016 the Cruz campaign had to pull an attack ad against challenger Sen.

The "like" was quickly noticed; Mr Cruz, a married father of two who ran for president previous year as a Godfearing conservative, has more than three million followers. The two were being shown how easy it can be to find porn online. The porn aggregation account then retweeted an account using the woman in the porn tweet as a meme calling out the pious Cruz for liking it.

Cruz would not say who the staffer was and what kind of discipline the person might face, and it is "still being discussed" whether that person still has access to his Twitter account.

A spokesperson for Cruz has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Cruz's outspokenly anti-Cruz college roommate, the screenwriter and director Craig Mazin, clearly has his own ideas of Cruz's opinions about his stance on stimulating one's genitals for non-medical purposes. But if we have one piece of advice for Cruz's staff, it's this: Don't pretend like Cruz got hacked. And perhaps none of these people were responsible. "We would not have cast her had we known of that history".
