Area colleges and universities nab spots on popular national ranking lists

Among public schools, the University of California-Los Angeles moved up one space to tie with the University of California-Berkeley, which has been the highest-ranking public university for 20 years.

Overall, Clemson was ranked 67 among all national universities, including private schools, Clemson also was recognized for its undergraduate engineering and business schools- ranking No. 56 and No. 78, respectively.

Clemson University once again is ranked among the top universities in the country by U.S.News & World Report.

LSU was tied with Mercer University in Georgia; The New School in New York; Rutgers University in New Jersey; University of Cincinnati and two SEC schools - University of Kentucky and University of Arkansas.

Overall, local higher education institutions are moving up the competitive ladder in various categories of the annual rankings, created to help parents and students with the higher ed selection process.

In Seward, Concordia University achieved its highest rank in the Midwest Regional Universities category in the 2018 report at No. 38.

"Our success hinges on TU's ability to engage and empower a diverse population of students and alumni".

Tech was also given the distinction of being named an "A-Plus School for B Students".

The school was ranked 135th a year ago.

In Money Magazine's latest report on "Best Colleges for your Money", Money evaluated 2,400 colleges and universities using 27 criteria and winnowed the list to 711 colleges and universities that the publication considers "best colleges for your money".

The rankings focus on student outcomes - including graduation and retention rates - which carry the most weight at 30 percent. Each of those factors is weighted based on how much U.S. News decides that measure matters.

"As one of the nation's top public research universities, UC San Diego thrives on a culture of collaboration that sparks discoveries to benefit humankind", Khosla said.

Tulane is ranked 40th among "Best National Universities" and its undergraduate business school is 45th among the nation's "Best Business Programs". "Student and faculty at Tulane combine knowledge from fields as diverse as the arts, engineering, music, medicine and more to address the challenges of our community and our world". Dollars officials said their school is the youngest private institution in the rankings.

The university's overall rise in the rankings, to a 53rd place tie among public universities, follows increased graduation rates in recent years, according to KU's news release.
