At the BRICS Summit hosted by India a year ago, Modi had described Pakistan as a "mothership" of terrorism worldwide and sought decisive global action against terror outfits. BRICS includes Communist-ruled China, authoritarian Russia and the democracies of India, Brazil and South Africa; China's economic powerhouse, a rising India, and Russian, Brazilian and South African economies hit hard by weak prices of export commodities.

The upcoming BRICS summit will derive the way forward for practical and comprehensive cooperation between member countries and other emerging economies, the organizing committee said on Saturday.

The BRICS forum is an important event for BRICS leaders to meet each year to exchange discussions on hot issues of common concern, to rally consensus and to develop policy statements.

On 5 September, there will be BRICS emerging markets-developing countries dialogue, which the spokesperson said is an opportunity for BRICS member countries to exchange views with the developing world and build broader partnership for development.

1200 industry representatives from the BRICS nations and other countries were in attendance at the Xiamen business forum.

Xi did not refer directly the border stand-off, but he acknowledged historical and cultural differences between BRICS members and called for greater trust to dispel suspicions. "BRICS has important contributions to make in addressing global challenges and upholding world peace and security", Modi said.

Xi added that he still had "full confidence" in Brics countries' development despite claims that the bloc's relevance had faded due to slower growth. In the past decade, we, the BRICS countries, have surged ahead and become the bright spot in the global economy... "Since both India and Pakistan have joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, it should not be hard to iron out the differences over the China Pakistan Economic Corridor", he said.

Prime Minister Prayut said Thailand's participation in the BRICS meeting as invited by China clearly shows that the grouping has attached importance to Thailand as the leading country of ASEAN.

When dialogue, consultation and negotiation are conducted to create conditions for achieving political settlement of issues such as Syria, Libya and the Palestine-Israel conflict, the flame of war can be put out, and displaced refugees will eventually return to their homes, he said.

There the two countries will focus on exploring new areas of cooperation.
