"Glen Campbell, a great entertainer, a great man & a great Arizonan - thanks for the memories", he tweeted.

Peaking at number one in Canada, the U.S. and Ireland, Rhinestone Cowboy is Campbell's best-known song.

During his 50 years in the music industry, Campbell produced 70 albums, sold 45 million records, won 12 Gold Albums, four Platinum, and one Double Platinum. And while he started out by sharing memories of their many years of close friendship, Webb made sure to emphasize that Campbell was more than just one of the biggest names in country music, but also someone who appreciated different genres of music and stood out as a very underrated guitar player.

According to Campbell's official biography, his album, "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" was the first country album to win top honor Album of the Year at the 10th Annual Grammy ceremony in 1968.

Campbell recalled meeting Urban when he was still an up-and-coming musician during a trip to Australia and giving him the advice to always keep practicing - advice Urban admitted he was still following to that day, years into a successful career. Campbell told the world he had Alzheimer's Disease in 2011. Born in Arkansas, Campbell, a self-taught guitarist who couldn't read music, moved to Los Angeles in 1960 at the age of 23 and soon became a member of the Wrecking Crew.

Popular country music legend Glen Campbell has died at the age of 81. Let people listen to that one for a long, long, long time because he sang like an angel.

The Jolene singer, 71, posted a video message on Twitter and wrote: "Glen Campbell was one of the greatest voices of all time". In this early stage in his career, he was sought after as a virtuoso guitarist, and his brisk, confident guitar work was part of, among many others, Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas", The Monkees' "Last Train to Clarksville", and "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys, with whom he would briefly go on tour as a substitute for Brian Wilson. By the mid-1990s he'd taken up residence at the Glen Campbell Goodtime Theatre in Branson, Mo., where he performed regularly. "I miss you already", commented soberly Miley Cyrus. His farewell tour was captured in an Oscar-nominated documentary called "Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me".
