The update, which is now available for Alpha Ring members of the Xbox One Insiders program, uses Microsoft's new Fluent Design platform to overhaul the console's user interface. In addition, you can also control your music from the Spotify app on your smartphone or computer while listening to it on your Xbox One so you don't have to pause or interrupt your game to switch tracks.

As long as you're on the same Wi-Fi network, you'll simply be able control the music from your mobile device by selecting the Xbox One from the "Devices Available" options.

The app that has arrived on Xbox One looks very different to the version on the desktop because of the use of the Desktop Bridge which is basically a port of the Win32 Spotify app. Furthermore, users can create personalised soundtracks for each game, elevating how much input players have with their favourite titles.

To download the app just head to the Xbox Store and search for Spotify. For example, players looking for a high-octane session can load up the Power Gaming playlist and stream mid-game. These blocks will change based on what you do, so if you put a specific game on your Home screen, it may display when your friends are playing that game, recommend which Achievement you should get next, etc. At Spotify, we believe that the right music can make every moment special, wherever and whenever you are.

A new preview update for the Xbox One has revealed that the next major update will be changing the way we see the Xbox UI.

Regardless, Spotify's here to stay on Xbox and while that probably doesn't spell the end of the console cold war, it's one step on the path of reconciliation.
