The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said his country is not North Korea's enemy.

The continuation of the North Korean nuclear and ballistic program poses an increasing and unacceptable threat to everyone. We are gonna be able to handle them.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday he and President Donald Trump agreed to take further action against North Korea following its latest missile launch.

Sanders said: "The president obviously has been very outspoken about how he feels about North Korea".

Mr Abe told reporters after his conversation with Mr Trump that the worldwide community has "made repeated efforts to resolve the North Korean issue peacefully, coordinating between Japan and the United States and with the global community, but North Korea has trampled all over these efforts and unilaterally escalated (the situation)".

However, given the potential for massive casualties from North Korean retaliation in allied South Korea and Japan and among USA troops there, the administration has stressed the need for a diplomatic solution. (Trump has) told me that.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham on Tuesday said President Trump told him that war will break out between the United States and North Korea if the rogue regime continues to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of striking the mainland.

But in early July she told the Security Council that if it is united, the worldwide community can cut off major sources of hard currency to North Korea, restrict oil to its military and weapons programs, increase air and maritime restrictions, and hold senior officials accountable. Abe said: "International society, including Russian Federation and China, need to take this seriously and increase pressure".

The North's rapidly developing weapon systems have highlighted the deepening divisions between Washington, Beijing, and Moscow and their North Korea policies. "Our foolish past leaders have allowed them to make hundreds of billions of dollars a year in trade, yet they do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk", Trump wrote.

After the launch the United States sent two su-personic B-1B bombers over the Korean peninsula in a 10-hour show of force. Japan and the USA would take steps towards concrete action, he said, but did not give details. As with the previous "successful" ICBM test, this most recent one wasn't really a success, and once again demonstrated North Korea's limitations on such missiles.

He said other options were "not particularly attractive".
