Britain said 27 high-rise apartment blocks had failed fire safety checks carried out after the deadly Grenfell Tower blaze, including several in north London where residents were forced to evacuate amid chaotic scenes late on Friday, Reuters reported.

Tower blocks housing thousands of people across England are being urgently tested to check if their outer coverings pose a serious fire risk following the Grenfell Tower disaster, with almost a dozen already testing positive for combustible material. Reuters reports that at least 600 buildings in England use the same type of cladding and that authorities are testing the material to determine whether other buildings are at risk of fire.

The cladding has since failed all safety checks.

But despite being urged to leave by officials, around 20 households had refused to vacate their homes, in Taplow, Burnham, Bray and Dorney blocks, by Saturday evening.

"Whilst both the Scottish government and our social housing providers have moved quickly to take action and to allay fears, it is important that our committee provides an additional layer of scrutiny both in terms of fire safety and building standards".

The safety of Scotland's high-rise flats is to be examined by a Holyrood committee following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London.

Police said Friday that they were considering filing manslaughter charges in the Grenfell disaster and they were conducting a wide-ranging investigation that will look at everything that contributed to the disaster.

Village 135 in Wythenshawe also failed the government tests.

Refurbishment on the building, including cladding, was overseen by Rydon, the company involved in the refit of Grenfell Tower.

The government has ordered an immediate examination of the refrigerator model that started the blaze.

In New Zealand, similarly combustible cladding has been found on two buildings in Auckland, while tests are just starting to get under way in other main centres.

There are unsafe blocks also in seven London boroughs - Barnet, Brent, Camden, Hounslow, Islington, Lambeth and Wandsworth. He added that "a review of building and safety regulations would have to be looked at".

FIREFIGHTERS from Freshwater and Yarmouth came together for a minute's silence to pay tribute to the Grenfell Tower fire victims and to support their emergency services' colleagues.

The fire led to the deaths of 79 people.

To make sure everyone comes forward, London Mayor Sadiq Khan pledged to seek an amnesty for people who may have been living in the public housing block illegally.

Downing Street sources said the prime minister, Theresa May, would chair a meeting of the Grenfell task force on Monday morning.

The LGA went on to explain that a number of councils had already introduced additional fire safety measures in buildings, like 24-hour a day warden patrols when advice from the fire service is clear that this will mitigate against fire risks ahead of the removal of cladding.
