A rainy Yoga Day for PM Modi in Lucknow

MD Rao expressed happiness over the fact that it is being celebrated by the people of more than 170 countries by organizing the activities like yoga training, yoga camps, yoga competitions and so many activities to enhance the awareness about yoga benefits among common public all over the world.

Addressing a huge gathering here, Modi said yoga, akin to its capacity to unite the body, mind and soul, has played a "big role" in binding the world, cutting across linguistic and cultural barriers. "Today, there is no question mark over yoga in any part of the world".

Usha Martin World School principal Anita Singh told the students about the importance of performing yoga on a regular basis during the morning assembly.

"Many countries which do not know our language, tradition, or culture, are now connecting to India through Yoga". Fifty or sixty minutes should be enough to bring harmony to the body, mind and intellect.

Praising the impact of the International Day of Yoga in the last three years, Mr. Modi said a large number of yoga institutes had developed, the demand for yoga teachers had increased in India as well as globally, and a large number of youth were choosing to be trained as yoga professionals. "If 1.25 billion Indians and people around the world can attain this state of well-being, then humankind can also tide over problems born out of human thoughts", he said.

The day was also observed at the Raj Bhawan, where state Governor P B Acharya in his message said, "Yoga provides physical and mental well being of the people".

Once his address was complete, the Prime Minister surprised everybody by descending on the ground to join the students waiting to perform yoga.

DAV-BSEB students performed several yoga asanas under the guidance of an expert from an internationally acclaimed institution.

More than 500 yoga enthusiasts participated in the event.

In his speech earlier, Adityanath thanked Modi for picking Lucknow as his venue for performing yoga on the third IYD.
