McCartney, Rowling promoted in the queen's Birthday Honors

Musicians Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sande, along with model Erin O'Connor, will become MBEs, while David Walliams can add an OBE to his name.

Director of the Institute of Development Studies, Professor Melissa Leach, has been appointed as a CBE for services to Social Science, in the Queen's Birthday 2017 Honours List.

However, it is not just celebrities the list recognises.

PC Palmer, who was tragically murdered during the Westminster terror attack, was also recognised for his incredibly fearless actions in the Queen's birthday honours list.

The reigning Over-85 world champion received news of the accolade a few weeks ago, but the honours list is only made public today.

"I'm very happy about this huge honour and with the news coming on my birthday weekend and Father's Day it makes it colossal!" said the Beatle in response to the news, as Associated Press reports.

And the chief executive officer ofBirmingham International Airport, Paul Kehoe, who lives in Alcester, is made CBE for services to the aviation industry and the United Kingdom economy.

One of the strengths of the honours system is its recognition also of the contribution of people from every walk of life, including business, education, healthcare, and religion.

Gloria Hunniford is made OBE for services to cancer charities.

But instead of a knighthood for his part in one of the most famous episodes of World War Two, the pensioner has been made an MBE for his "services to World War II Remembrance and the community in Bristol".

Pop sensation Ed Sheeran is now a Member of British Empire (MBE).

And Karen Riley, also from Salisbury, has received an OBE for services to special educational needs and disabilities.

Twenty years after he was knighted by the Queen, Sir Paul McCartney is upgraded with a Companion of Honour for services to music, alongside JK Rowling.

She served as Britain's Fed Cup coach from 2011 to 2016 and also mentored Davis Cup captain Leon Smith.
