War Machine, was today sentenced to life in prison in a Las Vegas, Nevada, courtroom for his brutal attack on ex-girlfriend Christy Mack nearly three years ago, which sent her to hospital with horrific injuries and has left her emotionally scarred most likely forever. Former mixed martial arts fighter Jonathan Koppenhaver, aka War Machine, led out of the courtroom at the Regional Justice Center on Monday, June 5, 2017, in Las Vegas.

Technically Koppenhaver received a life sentence, but he will be eligible for parole in 36 years, when he is 71. War Machine also attempted to rape Mack at knife point.

Prior to being formally sentenced, Koppenhaver addressed the court, saying he regretted the attack every day and that something was "not right" in his head, "plain and simple".

"I think that the jury obviously felt that no matter what you have in your past or what you may have been involved with, you don't deserve a beating like she got", he told The News.

Leiderman said later that he will appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court. The jury acquitted him of three lesser counts - battery with intent to commit sexual assault, burglary with a weapon and sexually motivated coercion.

Koppenhaver didn't testify at his two-week trial on 34 charges.

Koppenhaver legally changed his name to War Machine during his fighting career. Mack suffered numerous injuries during the attack including 18 broken bones, broken nose, missing teeth, rib fractures and a ruptured liver.

The attack occurred after Koppenhaver arrived unexpectedly at Mack's home. He also threatened to kill her. Koppenhaver was arrested in California after a week-long manhunt.

After the media frenzy, War Machine took to Twitter to say that he meant to propose to his girlfriend of the time before he found her in bed with another man.

Koppenhaver was arrested a week later in the Los Angeles suburb of Simi Valley.
